The north side of the 200 block of East Markham Street was home to the striking building of the Beal-Doyle Dry Goods business, seen here in 1910. Today, all the buildings in this postcard scene are gone. The Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce occupies the former Beal-Doyle block.

Mr. Beal apparently ended his partnership with Doyle and teamed with Mr. Burrow in the dry goods business. The firm’s new home in 1920 was a seven-story building designed in a modified Prairie School style by well-known local architect Charles Thompson. Later serving as home to Archer Drug Company, the structure is mostly empty today, but it is nicely restored and has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.
